Restoring Dignity in Aging: A Home, A Clinic, A Community

We are building an integrated Seniors' Community Centre, Dispensary, and Residential Home in Muusini, Machakos County, to provide the compassionate, evidence-based care our elders deserve. This is more than a project; it is a promise.

Golden Sunset Welfare Association is transforming elderly care in rural Kenya. Our work is guided by love, dignity, and sustainable development, moving beyond temporary aid to create lasting solutions. We are establishing a modern, integrated center to provide healthcare, shelter, and meaningful social connections for senior citizens who have been left behind. Join us in building a sanctuary of hope.

The Challenge: A Crisis of Dignity

The Reality for Seniors in Rural Kenya

A comprehensive feasibility study conducted in June 2025 by our partners, Franky's Foundation Consultancy, confirmed the silent crisis facing approximately 3,000 elderly individuals in Muusini, Machakos County, and its surrounding areas. For too long, their challenges have been invisible. Our work begins by bearing witness to their reality.

Key Findings from the Muusini Needs Assessment:

  • Critical Healthcare Gaps

The only public dispensary is located within a 15-kilometre radius and offers no geriatric-specific services, leaving seniors with chronic conditions and mobility issues without access to age-appropriate care.

  • Unsafe & Inadequate Housing

Many older adults live alone in structurally unsafe or deteriorating homes, exposing them to environmental hazards and poor sanitation.

  • Pervasive Social Isolation

Without community centers or structured support networks, elderly residents report frequent experiences of social isolation, neglect, and emotional abandonment, contributing to a decline in mental health.

“When we fall sick, we depend on neighbors. Many of us cannot walk far for treatment. We just wait and hope to feel better.”

Our Solution: The Muusini Seniors' Centre

An Evidence-Based Model for Compassionate Care

In direct response to these findings, Golden Sunset Welfare Association is proud to present a tangible, well-planned solution. Our project is a multi-functional facility to be built on a 4-acre parcel of land already secured in Muusini. This is not just a building; it is an ecosystem of care designed to address the interconnected needs of our elders.

The centre is composed of three specialized wings:

Golden Sunset Welfare Association - Health & Wellness Wing

The Health & Wellness Wing

This wing will house outpatient consultation rooms, basic diagnostic and laboratory services, and general health check-up facilities. It is designed to serve both the centre’s residents and walk-in community members, closing the critical healthcare access gap in the region.

The Residential & Housing Wing

This residential area will provide safe, comfortable, and dignified living quarters for up to 60 elderly residents. Complete with shared amenities and care support, this wing directly addresses the urgent housing needs of Muusini’s most vulnerable seniors.

Golden Sunset Welfare Association - Community & Social Wing

The Community & Social Wing

Designed to be the vibrant heart of the centre, this wing will include a community recreation hall, a communal kitchen for nutrition programs, and rooms for counseling and wellness. It will serve as a powerful hub for social connection, mental health services, and community engagement, directly combating the loneliness our elders face.

Become a Founder of Their Future Home

The architectural plans are complete, but a home is more than just walls and a roof—it’s built with love, hope, and community. Before the first brick is laid, you have the unique opportunity to dedicate a part of this future sanctuary. Your contribution can build a bookshelf in the Community Wing, place a vital tool in the Health clinic, or lay a cornerstone for the Residential Wing, creating a legacy of care that will be felt for generations.
