About Us
More Than a Mission, We Are a Community
Golden Sunset Welfare Association is a grassroots, community-based non-profit organization located in Nairobi and serving Machakos County, Kenya. Our mission is born from the African spirit of ubuntu—the belief that “I am because we are.” We believe that our elders, who have built our communities, deserve to live their later years with peace, protection, and purpose. We are more than an organization; we are a community of sons, daughters, and neighbors committed to serving the elderly with love, respect, and practical care.
Our Journey of Purpose
The Golden Sunset Welfare Association was officially formed on Friday, 9th May 2025, when a group of founding members came together with a shared vision. We saw a growing, critical gap in the support systems available to the elderly in many of our communities and resolved to take action.
Our passion was transformed into a plan through a crucial partnership with Franky’s Foundation Consultancy. Together, we undertook a comprehensive Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study in Muusini, Machakos County. This study provided the evidence-based foundation for our flagship project, turning our heartfelt vision into a structured, strategic, and achievable plan to build a dedicated seniors’ community centre, dispensary, and residential home.
The Need We Address: Why Our Work Matters
The Silent Crisis Facing Our Elders
Our work is a direct response to the urgent and often invisible challenges facing the aging population in regions like Muusini. Our feasibility study confirmed the harsh realities:
A Growing, Vulnerable Population
The area is home to an estimated elderly population of approximately 3,000 individuals.
Critical Healthcare Gaps
The only public dispensary is within a 15-kilometre radius, and it offers no geriatric-specific services, forcing seniors with chronic conditions to endure great difficulty in accessing care.
Unsafe Living Conditions
Many older adults live alone in structurally unsafe or deteriorating homes, leaving them vulnerable to environmental hazards and poor sanitation.
Widespread Social Isolation
Without community centres or structured support networks, elderly residents frequently experience social isolation and emotional neglect.
Guided by a Committed Team
Golden Sunset Welfare Association is steered by a dedicated team of founding officials who were unanimously confirmed at our inaugural meeting. They volunteer their time and expertise to guide our mission and ensure our vision becomes a reality.
